Experiencing the MakeBlock Strong Gripper

Some weeks ago I ordered the Strong Robot Gripper from Makeblock and paired it with the Motor Driver. These are the parts as I received them.

The tiny motor, gear box and threaded shaft.

This is the most time consuming part of the assembly: Removing the paper from the laser cut parts! It is not difficult, but I used thirty minutes.

All the laser cut parts to make a four claws gripper.

The assembly is easy. Just follow the instructions. You need some tools to fasten the bolts and nuts.

I assembled the four claws, but chose to only use two on the finished gripper. Here you see the gripper attached to the Starter Robot Kit via the Robot Servo Pack. You can use other servos, but the ease of using the Makeblock Servo, that fits directly to other Makeblock parts can be attractive.

Programming the gripper is easy. You just treat it as any other motor and give it a speed and direction. You have to be aware though: There is no way of telling if the gripper is completely closed or open, other than visually.

You can see the robot in action in my video "The Sneaky Robot".
